Dear Friends,
I thank the Lord so much for taking us this far. The
beginning of the year was full of hopelessness and distress which emanated
from the destruction of property and the killing of innocent people caught
by the unruly youth who fought with the military.
Mothers and children could be heard screaming as they
witnessed the burning to ashes of the places where they called home, the
killing of their husbands and sons as they all ran for their safety.
One mother of seven, in the dead of night heard a gang
of youth chanting slogans at the top of their voices approaching her home.
5 of her children ran in different directions while she strapped her two
month old twins, one on the front and the other to the back and she ran
for her life. As she ran in the dark, she tripped over dead bodies and
fell on the baby on her front. One of the young men who was burning houses
caught up with her. She pleaded with him for her life and by the mercies
of God, he not only left her alone, but he also showed her where she could
hide from the rest of the gang which was catching up. The woman hid for
the rest of the night and on day break, she fled to the Eldoret ASK show
ground Internally Displaced Persons camp where she found a well wisher to
take her ailing and crying baby to hospital. The baby had a broken leg and
some broken ribs. The child died a few days later. The woman narrated her
sad story to some of the MCF staff as tears fell down her cheeks.
There are hundreds of thousands of stories that move my
heart and the most devastating reality is that all these people do not
have hope for another day. They do not have food and the few who have a
little only have a handful of maize. No beans, vegetables or anything else
to eat. The ratio of food that they get while in the camp is way below
average and thus all people are faced with hunger, children being the
worst hit.
Through your prayers and support, MCF has been working
with the children at the Eldoret ASK Show ground Internally Displaced
Persons camp where 17,000 people are seeking refuge and over 7,000
children are at risk. The number has been increasing daily.
MCF is involved in the following daily programs;
1. Provision of lunch for over 3,000 children within
the camp
2. Offering recreational activities i.e. sports and
games for both the children and the adults.
3. Providence of social workers who offer guidance and
counseling services
4. Provision of spiritual nourishment
5. Provision of medical services
6. Provision of teachers and streamlining of the
educational system within the camp
7. Have a long term goal to identify the orphans who
are in dire need of being absorbed in the MCF homes for rehabilitation.
Over the last 2 weeks, I have been working together
with 35 members of MCF staff and volunteers, my wife and part of my
biological family currently based in our home in Eldoret where the MCF
ministry was born 19 years ago.
It is quite sad to be back to Eldoret where I lived
together with my biological family in the early 70's and 80's and later
with the big MCF family in the 90's after which we left in the mid
nineties at a time where there was also political unrest and we settled in
Ndalani.
We thank the Lord as more children from our MCF homes
who had left for the December holidays continue to return. We organized
for a bus to bring those from Vipingo, Mombasa and many more continue to
report to us as they come from Eldoret and other parts of the country. We
have resumed our usual programs in Ndalani, Yatta, Vipingo and Kangundo
MCF branches however nothing has taken off in Kitale as there is alot of
unrest in the area. Please pray for 55 MCF beneficiaries who have not yet
reported due to being caught up by the political unrest. There where
abouts are still unknown.
We still continue to pray for peace as political unrest
and destruction of property as well as murdering of innocent people
continues to escalate. The day before yesterday, a Nairobi Member of
Parliament from the Embakasi constituency was shot dead while driving
home. This brought tension especially in the Nairobi Kibera slums among
different ethnic groups.
Three hours ago, another Member of Parliament was shot
dead in Eldoret town, a few kilometers from our MCF Eldoret base. This has
created more tension and as a result has sparked fresh violence leading to
the barricading of all main roads leading in and out of the town.
At this time, there is scarcity of essential food
around the country due to the political unrest. I would like to kindly
request that you join us in prayer that the Lord will give us a solution
to this problem. We also pray for security as people are currently living
with fear by the day, trusting that the Lord will give them another day to
live. We are also praying for reconciliation among our leaders as they
discuss and negotiate under the direction of Koffi Annan, Graca Machel and
other former presidents of different countries in Africa, for the
betterment of the children and people living in Kenya.
I would like to most sincerely thank you for your
continued prayer and financial support that has enabled us to reach this
far.
Wishing you blessings
Yours sincerely,
Ev.C.M.MULLI

Press Statement by Mully Children’s Family Kenya
Being proud citizens of Kenya, we are immensely concerned about the current situation in our country.
The on going violence and the current destruction and loss of property has led to the loss of many innocent lives. The security of the country has deteriorated putting its people at risk and leaving its citizens to wonder when peace and security will be restored.
In the midst of all the blood shed, the most vulnerable group are the children who have to witness and go through acts of violence and abuse that they cannot comprehend. Lives of young innocent children are being affected and scarred for life.
As an organization working in the rescue, care and rehabilitation of orphans and vulnerable children for the past 19 years, we are concerned with the current situation as a similar scenario witnessed in the clashes of 1992, left many traumatized children some of whom were taken into our care while others also received care from various organizations across the country.
In the infamous clashes of 1992, thousands of children where orphaned, raped, abused and displaced. Despite the fact that some of these children have now gone through our family’s care and support and are now responsible citizens, the physical, emotional, psychosocial and even financial cost of dealing with these atrocities remains very high. These children are forever left with scars.
Having been involved in the rescue of children during the above mentioned catastrophic time in our country’s history, and having rescued over 6,000 children from 1989 to date while at the same time impacting thousands of other families in Kenya, it is our moral obligation to inform both the citizens and leaders of our great country that it is imperative for all Kenyans to prevent and avert a similar or much worse scenario that will lead to bloodshed.
As responsible Kenyan citizens, we should all work together, as hard as we possibly can to change the current state of affairs. No stone should be left unturned. No peaceful option should be left unexploited. All in the interest of a strongly unified and peaceful Kenya.
Our Nation is greater than any one individual, and its people’s lives priceless. At this moment of grief and turmoil, I would like to emphasize on the great need for a Government that will bring about national unity. We believe that the leaders of both PNU and ODM should sit down and work out a power sharing structure that should be witnessed, facilitated and validated by those with the interest of the country at heart both local and international leaders and organizations such as religious leaders, the African Union, European Union, United states of America, United Kingdom and Common Wealth representatives in order to ensure Equitable share of power and an inclusion of all warying political parties. We are one nation, one community, one family; our sisters are being abused, our mothers raped, our husbands and brothers are being killed and our children being orphaned. Let us rise above ethnicity, tribalism and political affiliations and reside by the words of our national anthem “….May we dwell in Unity, peace and liberty!..”
I would further like to implore the leaders of ODM, PNU and ODM-K to call upon their supporters to restrain themselves and refrain from any acts of violence that will lead to further bloodshed and hooliganism.
May God bless Kenya and bring peace to our beloved country to restore the lost glory.
